so not only is “the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb” a completely ahistorical and wrong interpretation of “blood is thicker than water” (given that “blood is thicker than water” goes back to 12th century german and the earliest iteration of the “covenant” one is fucking 1994) but it appears to have been made up out of whole cloth by a messianic guy as part of a bigger theological argument about covenants within religious communities

like even if you’re looking for something that says “friendship is more important than blood family,” this specific phrase wouldn’t be it. it’s just perpetuating evangelical bullshit.

The linked Wikipedia source  doesn’t frame it as that open and shut - the “covenant” interpretation is an “alternative” view. No idea about the veracity of the other links.

I’m unsure what you’re disputing here. The earliest iteration of this “alternative” view is the post I linked, which has a clear publishing date of 1994. It is, therefore, not the older, “original” phrase that people claim it is.

*plays assassins creed to study for my ap history exam*

This is actually really funny. In high school my humanities teacher told us a story about one of the Europe trips he had gone on with the school a few summers past. So him and the group of kids were in the middle of Rome and the tour guide had gotten lost. They could figure out how to get to some church they were going to see. All of a sudden one of the students like call attention to himself. He says he knows where to go and just start walking around the streets, taking back roads and side streets and within 20 mins they’re at the church they needed to get to. My teacher asks the kid if he has every been to Italy before. He says no, he just knew where to go because he played Assassins Creed Brotherhood.

@katsdisturbed

Haha. Yep. Know my way around Rome pretty good by now. Also, killed lots of people there too.

the way tumblr talks abt medication, mental illness, and institutionalization is very very VERY white and it makes me mad 😠

ive seen so many posts on this site talking about how “NEVER stop taking your medication without talking to your doctor first” which is often true but doesnt account for the f act that mentally ill poc can have extremely difficult times advocating for themselves in medical settings and this means that sometimes you can yell and yell at your doctor that this medication is fucking you up and theyll just tell you to suck it up.

like ive seen posts about destigmatizing taking medications and twitter threads “SAY WHAT MEDS YOURE ON” as if the internet isnt searchable and as if poc on meds for psychosis arent going to be swiftly fired if their employer hears about it

ive  seen posts about how “no therapist will ever yell at you/tell you your trauma is fake/victim blame you” or whatever when some people face horribly racist dismissive abusive therapists and theyre not the norm but god is it horrible when it happens

and ive seen SO many fuuuuuuucking posts about how being institutionalized is “pretty chill and that the movies are fake people arent hurt and abused and the doctors know whats best for you” and that really just breaks my heart. we cant say that when black women are forcefully institutionalized for no reason other than the fact that they were trying to contest a ticket. you cant say that when black women are in a bad place and their family calls 911 to help bring them to the hospital and the cops show up and shoots them instead. you just cant say that when lots of these places are actually a little bit horrible. when sometimes the staff are abusive and most of the time the staff is racist and when a lot of poc especially ones who have mental stuff OTHER than anxiety/depression are telling you that mental hospitals are unsafe for them.

and this isnt to say that you shouldnt take your meds or you shouldnt go to therapy or even you shouldnt live in an inpatient facility if you need it. its just that uhhh its a lot fucking harder when youre a person of color and dismissing the real fear and anxiety that goes with having to engage with the psychiatry system has real consequences for young poc who wont know how to name these experiences.
